Words From The FounderPortrait of Reverend McSwain

As a local Pastor for more than twenty-five years, I have been fortunate enough to develop a trusting relationship with many people in Bloomington and throughout McLean County. As a result, I have been able to provide residents positive guidance concerning personal issues, even during turbulent times. I have, on many occasions, been called upon to counsel families in crisis, including those victimized by domestic violence and other abuses that threaten to destroy the very essence of the family. I have undertaken such challenges only following deep thought and reflection.

Far too often, domestic violence affecting children, now characterized as child abuse, results in the children being removed from the home and placed in foster care. Many of these children are moved from home to home and, consequently, are less likely to excel in education in particular and life in general. This less than desirable consequence is obviously devastating to any family and must be avoided.

Therefore, as President of the Board of Directors for Family Community Resource Center, I am proud of our partnership with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. We plan to work to improve the relationship between DCFS and our residents who need DCFS services here in Bloomington and to concentrate on client enrichment through the utilization of available DCFS resources and services; facilitate access to programs and services; and to encourage domestic violence awareness and prevention.
